What to Expect from a Datathon: A Technical Data Science Walkthrough!
February 12 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
We are pleased to invite you to Data for Good – Waterloo Region’s third event! Join us as we illustrate the technical aspects of the Datathon process through a live walkthrough of a really cool data science problem!
Two of our fabulous volunteers, Mandy Gu and Ruoyu Qian, will take us through a step-by-step walkthrough that uses the 2018 Kaggle Machine Learning & Data Science Survey dataset (https://www.kaggle.com/kaggle/kaggle-survey-2018) to answer the following question: how can we predict the job title of a data science professional based on their skills and qualifications?
Through this premise, Mandy and Ruoyu will illustrate:
– Translating a business problem into an analytics problem
– Exploratory data analysis and data wrangling
– Text mining and feature creation
– Classification using machine learning techniques
– Interpreting the results
Schedule of activities:
6:30 – 7:00 Arrive, grab food, network
7:00 – 8:00 Case study walk-through and analysis
8:00 – 8:30 Network, departure
Thank you very much to Communitech for providing space for our event at their Kitchener office (note: this is a different location from the Communitech Data Hub in Waterloo, where we held our kickoff event)!
